چکیده
If Bekenstein's conjectured bound on the microcanonical entropy, S ≤ 2πER, is applied to a closed subsystem of maximal linear size R and excitation energy up through E, it can be violated by an arbitrarily large factor by a scalar field having a symmetric potential allowing domain walls, and by the electromagnetic field modes in a coaxial cable.

Huge Violations of Bekenstein's Entropy Bound *
Bekenstein's conjectured entropy bound for a system of linear size R and energy E, S ≤ 2πER, can be violated by an arbitrarily large factor, among other ways, by a scalar field having a symmetric potential allowing domain walls, and by the electromagnetic field modes between an arbitrarily large number of conducting plates.

Bekenstein's conjectured entropy bound for a system of linear size R and energy E, S ≤ 2πER, has counterexamples for many of the ways in which the " system, " R, E, and S may be defined. Here new ways are proposed to define these quantities for arbitrary nongravitational quantum field theories in flat spacetime, such as defining R as the smallest radius outside of which only vacuum expectation ...

متن کاملPerturbative analysis of topological entanglement entropy from conditional independence
We use the structure of conditionally independent states to analyze the stability of topological entanglement entropy. For the ground state of the quantum double or Levin-Wen model, we obtain a bound on the first-order perturbation of topological entanglement entropy in terms of its energy gap and subsystem size. The bound decreases superpolynomially with the size of the subsystem, provided the...
متن کاملTopology in Free Fermion Systems
We study the relationship between bipartite entanglement, subsystem particle number and topology in a half-filled free fermion system. It is proposed that the spin-projected particle numbers can distinguish the quantum spin Hall state from other states, and can be used to establish a new topological index for the system. Furthermore, we apply the new topological invariant to disordered system a...
